About the event
"OUR OWN STORIES" WORKSHOPS
(Easing into Autobiographic Storytelling)
Participants in this supportive setting in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains are helped to find and tell their stories through a creative selection of fun, easy, step-by-step activities, using both writing and telling techniques.
This workshop will be all day Saturday, October 16th with the option of staying over Sunday for the integration session: a sharing of family heirloom recipe in a cooking fellowship wrap up.
Story circles work best with the smaller group size so the workshop is limited to 12 participants
Our Beautiful Leader Barbara Bates Smith's Background:
Barbara, in guiding these activities, brings years of professional experience, plus specialized
training at Esalen Institute with Spalding Gray, noted autobiographic storyteller. She has
conducted workshops at schools, retirement centers, conferences, retreats, and at a Women's
Self Esteem Workshop including Gloria Steinem.
A professional actress and playwright, noted for her Off-Broadway performances of “Ivy Rowe”
from Lee Smith’s Fair and Tender Ladies, Barbara has toured extensively with one-woman
shows, recently adding the popular “Go, Granny D!.” Both have live music by Jeff Sebens. More about Barbara here
As a follow-up, join us for one of Barbara’s one-woman shows- serving as a springboard to participation, and
enhancing her chief function as a catalyst to encourage others. (check out the Hart Theatre in Waynesville here for tickets to the show on November 6th and 7th)
